The Hydrographic Society of Korea (HYSK) is mainly focused on the
studies and researches of hydrographic spheres related to marine research,
marine survey, marine probing, mapping maritime boundary, and internal
and international seminars for the construction of theoretical bases.
The Society will provide open spaces and academic research places to the
members of the Society and the related persons through the above
mentioned studies, researches and seminars.

In particular, Korea is geographically and closely related to the oceans and the seas and so there is no doubt that the oceans and the
seas are so important to Korea. Under the considerations of these peculiar geographical situations, the HYSK which will suggest future
direction for the research of the exploration and development of sea lanes and hydrography, is urgently needed to play its role.

In terms of the implementation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, coastal states are trying to extend their maritime zones
under the name of the extension of the so called marine territory, which is current ocean circumstances and real ones. Therefore, it is
definitely and necessary to provide some theoretical background and sources for the active response to the current ocean situations and
therefore, the functions and roles of the HYSK are really crucial and important.

The Hydrographic Society of Korea (HYSK) is a window to be opened to all members for common researches and communications, which will be achieved only by making efforts of all members. How can the HYSK be maintained without consistent and positive passions and
concerns of all members ! I do sincerely hope your willingness and active participation to the implementation of the missions of the HYSK.
